Carnival Australia said it has launched the first shore excursion at Mystery Island in Vanuatu.

Cruise passengers have four choices: a glass-bottom boat tour, a guided snorkel safari, a glass-bottom kayak and stand-up paddle boarding.

Michael Mihajlov, destinations director for Carnival Australia, said cruise ships have been calling at Mystery Island for 30 years, but tours have only just been introduced because of the lack of satellite communications, fueling, and suitable management and insurance coverage.

Another obstacle has been getting recreation equipment there. Mihajlov said kayaks and paddle boards have been progressively carried to Mystery island on P&O Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line ships. Princess and Holland America Line also will offer the Mystery Island tours.
