Carnival Cruise Lines unveiled interactive digital aquariums on city streets across the U.S. on Tuesday, in the latest phase of its current advertising campaign.
Pedestrian motion will stimulate huge, computer-animated aquariums in six U.S. cities this week, with images of fish, plants, water and bubbles.
The Carnival-branded aquariums are located in vacant storefront spaces in high-traffic pedestrian areas, and are designed to engage passersby in a "fun, spontaneous and highly entertaining interactive experience", Carnival said.
Consumers can interact with the aquariums via motion reactivity and mobile phone interactivity, the line said. Passersby will be able to dial a number on their cell phone to create personalized fish that they can revive by returning to the aquarium.
"The interactive aquariums mirror the essence of the Carnival vacation experience in that they are designed to provide people with highly memorable and spontaneous fun," stated Jim Berra, Carnival’s senior vice president of marketing.
The digital aquariums in Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and Washington were created using computer vision technology, flash animation and mobile gaming software.
The interactive aquariums will operate through the end of April. The following are the exact locations: Baltimore (111 S. Calvert St.), Dallas (1933 Elm St.), Houston (312 Main St., Los Angeles (7901 Melrose Ave.), New York (100 Park Ave.) and Washington (908 F St. NW).
