Carnival Cruise Line said the amount automatically added to guest accounts for gratuities will increase for cruises departing on and after Dec. 1.

For standard staterooms, the amount rises from $12.95 a day to $13.99. For guests in suites, the amount will go from $13.95 to $15.99. The increases amount to 8% and 14.6%, respectively. Carnival last raised gratuities in May 2016.

Of the total, $4.05 goes to the housekeeping team, $6.40 to the dining team and $2.50 to "alternate services," Carnival said.

Guests can adjust the amount but must do so before they leave the ship. Carnival emphasized that gratuities, as posted on a guest's Sail and Sign account, "will be considered final after a guest disembarks and no changes will be made after the cruise."
