The Celebrity Solstice will sail year-round in the Caribbean beginning in 2010.

Celebrity's newest ship was previously slated to return to the Mediterranean in 2010. The Solstice will spend this summer in the Mediterranean.

Celebrity also is canceling its 12-day Celebrity Equinox cruises out of Barcelona and Venice in 2010.

Citing an "extraordinary response" from consumers when the Solstice was in the Caribbean this year, Celebrity CEO Dan Hanrahan said that the move would offer North American passengers a "closer-to-home vacation option whenever they’re ready to get away".

The Solstice will sail alternating seven-day eastern and western Caribbean cruises roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale in the summer months, and only eastern Caribbean itineraries in the winter.

The Solstice will be Celebrity’s second ship sailing year-round in the Caribbean. The Century will operate four- and five-day cruises from Miami.

Replacing the Solstice in Europe will be its sister ship, the Equinox, which enters service on July 31. The Equinox will operate 10- and 11-day Mediterranean sailings from Rome that were previously planned for the Solstice.
