Celebrity puts third Solstice-class vessel on order

Celebrity Cruises ordered a 118,000-ton ship from German shipbuilder Meyer Werft, the cruise line said.

The third 2,850-berth Solstice-class ship is scheduled to be completed in June 2010. Its sister ships, the Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Equinox, will be delivered in fall 2008 and summer 2009, respectively.

Celebritys Solstice class is more than a series of new ships; its a new class, introducing a new program that will further differentiate and elevate the Celebrity brand, said Richard Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Celebritys parent company, in a statement. He added that RCCL is pleased to expand its collaboration with Meyer Werft.

Celebrity estimated that the all-in cost of the ship would be approximately $245,000 per berth, based on current exchange rates.
