U.K.-based Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV) has ceased operations after the cruise line failed to secure funding.

Financial firm Duff & Phelps was appointed administrator for the cruise line, according to CMV’s website.

CMV sourced mainly British passengers and operated six cruise ships: the Columbus, Vasco da Gama, Astoria, Astor, Marco Polo and Magellan. The Astoria was marketed as the world’s oldest operating cruise ship: It entered service as a liner in 1948 and was completely rebuilt in 1994. The Marco Polo was built in 1965.

The Columbus is the former Star Princess, the Vasco da Gama is the former Statendam, and the Magellan is the former Carnival Holiday.

CMV had been planning to acquire two P&O Australia ships in 2021, the Pacific Dawn and the Pacific Aria.

CMV is the second cruise line to file for bankruptcy during the Covid-19 pandemic. Spanish cruise line Pullmantur filed for insolvency in June.
