Cunard Line took delivery of its newest
ship, the Queen Victoria, in Venice, Italy, on Nov. 24, in advance
of the ship's naming on Dec. 10 in Southampton, England.
The ceremony took
place on board the 90,000-ton vessel at Fincantieri's Marghera
shipyard in the company of Italian Prime Minister, Romano Prodi. As
per custom, the Italian flag that had been on the ship for the
construction was lowered and the Red Ensign raised, entering the
ship into the Register of British Shipping.
The Queen Victoria
is scheduled to leave the shipyard on Friday and sail to
Southampton, where it will berth at the City Cruise Terminal at
9:30 a.m. on Dec. 7. The ship will depart on its maiden voyage at 5
p.m. Dec. 11.
