Citing the high cost of crude oil, British operator Fred Olsen Cruise Lines will implement a fuel surcharge.
The cruise line said that a fee of $5 per person, per day (maximum of $100 per person, per cruise) will apply to all new bookings, beginning May 5.
The fee is $2.50 per person, per day for the third and subsequent occupants of a cabin, to a maximum of $50 per cruise.
Fred Olsen specified the cost of Brent crude oil, which is currently $87.25 per barrel.
The cruise line said that should the price of Brent oil fall to $70 per barrel or below, averaged across the month prior to date of departure, the fuel charge will be refunded to the passenger in the form of an onboard spending credit.
Fred Olsen said that the fuel surcharge is not commissionable.
