MIAMI -- The family of Amy Bradley, a woman who disappeared on a
Rhapsody of the Seas cruise last year, is suing Royal Caribbean,
claiming the 23-year-old was abducted from the ship.
The lawsuit, filed in circuit court here, seeks damages to be
determined by a jury for alleged negligence, defamation and
intentional emotional damage.
Bradley was last seen by her family while she was sleeping on
the balcony of their cabin March 24, 1998. The family believes she
was abducted while on board, held against her will and forced into
a waiting taxi when the ship docked in Puerto Rico on March 28.
They base this belief on an eyewitness account, their lawyer
said.
Royal Caribbean said it was never told by any law enforcement
official of any evidence suggesting foul play. The line said in a
statement it acted "appropriately and responsibly at all
times."
The line said it had fully cooperated with law enforcement
authorities and that crew members had voluntarily undergone
polygraph tests given by the FBI.
"We're sorry despite all these efforts to assist the Bradley
family they've apparently decided to direct their grief at the
company by filing a lawsuit seeking financial damages," Royal
Caribbean said.
