The Nieuw Amsterdam, a Holland America Line ship slated for a summer 2010 delivery, will spend its maiden season in the Mediterranean.

Scheduled to debut on July 4, 2010, the Nieuw Amsterdam will sail 12-day itineraries roundtrip from Venice or between Barcelona and Venice. The ship will visit ports in Greece, Croatia, Turkey and Italy.

The new ship will give HAL a total of six ships in Europe in 2010. The Eurodam, Maasdam, Prinsendam, Noordam and Westerdam will offer a total of 54 cruises and call at a total of 142 ports, including 11 maiden calls.
