Princess shifts ships for more U.S. departures

NEW YORK -- Princess Cruises set several revised itineraries for 2002 based on "passengers' interest in additional U.S.-based cruising opportunities," said company officials.

The 1,950-passenger Sun Princess will offer 10-day Mexican Riviera cruises departing roundtrip from Los Angeles between Sept 27, 2002 and Jan. 15, 2003, and again from March 26, 2002, to April 25, 2003.

The sailings replace the ship's previously scheduled Asia and South Pacific cruises, to be assumed by 1,590-passenger Regal Princess.

That vessel, meanwhile, will offer a series of 10-day Alaska cruises departing roundtrip from San Francisco from May 29 to Sept. 6, 2002; the Alaska cruises replace the ship's previously scheduled European sailings.

Princess also eliminated several eastern Mediterranean ports from 2,600-passenger Golden Princess' 2002 Mediterranean cruises. Port calls on the ship's 10-day itinerary, scheduled to begin in May 2002, will feature calls at Messina, Sicily, and Monte Carlo, Monaco, in place of a previously scheduled overnight call in Istanbul, Turkey.

Golden Princess' new 12-day itinerary replaces calls in Istanbul and Kusadasi, Turkey, with visits to Civitavecchia, Italy, (the port city for Rome) and Malta.

Also, the ship's 15-day transatlantic cruise departing Aug. 30, 2002 will replace stops in Istanbul; Pireaus, Greece, and Civitavecchia with Venice, Naples and Livorno, Italy.
