Actor Robert Downey Jr. will be godparent of the Disney Adventure, a Disney Cruise Line ship debuting in Singapore on March 10. The 6,700-passenger ship will be the largest in Disney's fleet.
Downey portrayed Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel film franchise and will star as Doctor Doom in "Avengers: Doomsday," in theaters Dec. 18.
Incoming Disney CEO Josh D'Amaro said the Disney Adventure "continues Disney Cruise Line's tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea," and that Downey "has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel stories."
Commenting on being named godparent, Downey said, "It's impossible to describe the majesty of the Adventure, and to be its godparent is an honor. As the largest ship in the Disney fleet, a gargantuan blessing must be bestowed … I'll do my darndest."
At Marvel Landing on the top decks of the Adventure, guests can ride Tony Stark's Ironcycle Test Run, the first roller coaster on a Disney Cruise Line ship.
In the open-air Disney Imagination Garden, the "Avengers Assemble!" live stage production will feature stunts and special effects during a battle of Marvel superheroes and villains. And inside Disney's Oceaneer Club, the Marvel WEB Workshop invites young recruits to try out new superhero suit prototypes and conduct training simulations using top-secret Avengers technology.
The Disney Adventure will be the first Disney ship to homeport in Asia. Disney partnered with the Singapore Tourism Board to operate the ship from the Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore.
