Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas needs to undergo unplanned maintenance when the cruise ship returns to Miami from its current sailing, leading Royal to cancel a seven-night voyage scheduled to depart Sept. 28. The ship is expected to remain in Miami for repairs.

Because the ship has traveled at slower-than-normal speeds during this week's cruise, Royal canceled a scheduled call in St. Thomas on Sept. 26 instead spending the day at sea. The ship is expected to call at Perfect Day at Coco Cay on Sept. 27, according to a letter to guests obtained by Royal Caribbean Blog.

Royal Caribbean has offered customers affected by the canceled cruise a 100% refund of the cruise fare, plus a 100% future cruise credit based on the cruise fare paid.

Guests who booked air through Royal Caribbean will be automatically refunded. Those who booked air elsewhere will receive $200 per guest for domestic U.S. travel and $400 for international travel to cover flight changes or cancellation fees.

Guests on the current sailing received onboard credit equal to the value of one day's worth of cruise fare.
