While construction has begun on Silversea Cruises' second Nova-class ship, the debut of the first has been pushed back one month.

Silversea president Roberto Martinoli pointed to "worldwide issues" that have affected construction of the Silver Nova

The Nova is now expected to sail its maiden voyage on Aug. 14, 2023, roundtrip from Venice.

Guests affected by the Nova's delay will save 10% when booking an alternative voyage before Nov. 30, plus they will receive a future cruise credit valued at the full total booking amount paid. Or, they may seek a cash refund.

Meanwhile, the steel-cutting ceremony for the Silver Ray was held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on Nov. 23. The ship is expected to debut in the summer of 2024.

Both Nova-class ships will use hybrid technology: fuel cells, batteries and dual-fuel engines that use liquefied natural gas. According to Silversea, neither ship will emit emissions while in port.

The 728-guest ships will feature a horizontal layout and an asymmetrical design with some public spaces and suites spanning the entire length of each ship.

Silversea contends the 54,700-gross-ton ships will be among the most spacious cruise ships at sea.
