Westerdam sails final cruise under HAL flag

SEATTLE -- Holland America Line bids tot ziens to the Westerdam March 10, when the ship is set to leave the HAL fleet for sister line Costa Cruises.

The Westerdam began service as the former Home Lines' Homeric in 1986 and entered service with HAL in 1988. The ship's final cruise under the HAL flag was an eight-day eastern Caribbean cruise -- its 643rd voyage for the line.

HAL will welcome the Prinsendam -- formerly the Seabourn Sun -- to its fleet in June and will christen two new ships in the coming year.

The 1494-passenger Westerdamm to be renamed CostaEuropa after a refurbishment, is scheduled to debut in its new Costa trappings April 27 on an 11-night Greek Isles cruise.
