COLOGNE, N.J. -- A second 18-hole championship daily-fee course,
the Blue Heron Pines East, opened in this Galloway Township
The property, created by Ole Hansen & Sons, developers of
Blue Heron Pines Golf Club, was designed by Steve Smyers.
The Blue Heron Pines East Course features a clubhouse that is to
be expanded in order to offer a full-service facility that includes
a hotel and conference center.
The Blue Heron Pines East Course, which is 7,300 yards from the
championship tees, is a "links" style course and offers wide
fairways, generous tees and greens, as well as challenging
The West Course at Blue Heron Pines measures 6,810 yards from
the championship tees.
According to Smyers, Blue Heron was designed to play "fast and
firm," and to "encourage the use of slopes and contours to advance
the ball toward the hole," encouraging the "discovery of

Smyers' courses feature an "excellent use of grass textures and
uneven terrain that make golf both challenging and enjoyable."
Further development includes a home for Laurelwood, a
continuing-care retirement facility.
Blue Heron Pines -- which has become a popular venue for
corporate outings and weddings due to its restaurant, banquet
facilities, a golf shop and PGA professionals -- received both a
four-star rating and a quality-service rating from Golf Digest in
its 1998-1999 edition of Places to Play.
Last year, it was recognized for the third consecutive year as
one of the top women-friendly facilities in North America by Golf
