SQUAW VALLEY, Calif. -- The Resort at Squaw Creek here opens its
summer season with a $3 million expansion of its Health and Fitness
Center, making it North Lake Tahoe's largest full-service spa,
according to a spokeswoman.
The resort, which is a 10-minute drive from Nevada's Tahoe area,
also announced new packages that include spa and golf
activities.
"We pay 10% commission on rooms and on the entire amount of our
spa and golf packages," said the spokeswoman.
The spa enhancement completed in late April covered a remodeling
and expansion of the existing exercise area, including a new
private dry sauna.
The expansion included a beauty salon, a larger reception area, a
fresh juice bar and a lounge.
Audiovisual technology also was upgraded at the resort.
The project added 4,000 square feet to the Sun Plaza deck, a
dining area that overlooks the Squaw Valley meadow.
The 403-room resort features a rustic alpine feel with a wide
variety of activities in both the summer and winter seasons,
according to the spokeswoman.
"You don't have to go anywhere else. We have everything right
here," she said.
Summer highlights include golf on a Robert Trent Jones-designed
course, mountain biking, hiking (including the Sierra Nevada
range), tennis, horseback riding and spa activities.
The facility has five restaurants, some of which offer
fixed-price menus.
It also has 33,000 square feet of meeting space; indoor/outdoor
hot tubs; three swimming pools, and Mountain Buddies. a supervised
children's program.
Room rates range from $250 for spring and fall lows to $500 in
the winter for a fireplace suite.
A presidential penthouse is available for a year-round rate of
$1,900 per night.
Travel agent rates of $99 are available during slow periods, the
spokeswoman said.
The resort also e-mails monthly updates on its offerings to
agents.
The resort is 200 miles east of San Francisco and 100 miles east
of Sacramento, Calif., but closer (45 minutes) to Reno/Tahoe
Airport.
