MIAMI -- Cruise lines are joining tour operators and other
travel providers in avoiding Egypt, following last November's
terrorist attack that killed 58 visitors in Luxor.
Cunard became the third cruise line to cancel calls at Egyptian
ports this year. Earlier, First European and Royal Olympic did
so.
Cunard canceled seven calls. Affected sailings are Royal Viking
Sun's World Cruise and its Sept. 5 sailing; Vistafjord's Oct. 22
sailing, and four Sea Goddess II sailings, on April 21, Sept. 20,
Sept. 27 and Oct. 4. The line set alternative calls on Turkey's
Turquoise Coast, including Marmaris, Kas and Antalya, as well as
Mykonos, Greece; Cyprus, and Eliat, Israel.
First European's Flamenco and Azur canceled calls in Egypt on 12
sailings in favor of calls at Antalya and Istanbul, Turkey.
Royal Olympic changed the schedule for its Holy Land, Treasures
of Antiquity, Cradle of Civilization and Voyages of Discovery
cruises on the Stella Solaris, which now will visit Antalya,
Turkey, and Haifa, Israel.
