Hudson cruises highlight estates, Sleepy Hollow

NEW YORK -- NY Waterway announced its fall lineup of Hudson River excursions, all commissionable at 10%.

This year's itineraries include day trips to West Point for an Army football game, trips to the Kykuit and Lyndhurst castles and a visit to historic Sleepy Hollow.

The West Point Football Cruise, which includes game tickets, kicked off Sept. 7; it is scheduled for Oct. 12 and 26, and Nov. 9. The package costs $80 for adults and children; $55 for the cruise only.

The full-day excursion departs from Port Imperial in Weehawken, N.J., at 7:30 a.m. and from Pier 78 at West 38th Street and 12th Avenue at 7:45 a.m. It leaves West Point one hour after the game ends for the one-hour-and-40-minute sailing back.

The West Point Highlights Cruise leaves out the football game but includes a tour of West Point's grounds, chapels and a museum that houses the largest collection of military memorabilia in the Western Hemisphere.

The daylong excursion departs from Pier 78 at 9:15 a.m. and returns at 6:30 p.m. Departures are scheduled for Oct. 5, 6, 13, 19, 20 and 27; and Nov. 2 and 3. The fare is $60 for adults, $56 for seniors and $30 for children.

Kykuit occupies a landscape of extensive stone terraces, formal gardens and glorious fountains. A 75-minute Hudson Highlands Cruise departs from the South Dock at West Point and takes in some of the Hudson River's most beautiful scenery. It cruises past the Boscobel Restoration, Sugar Loaf Mountain and Mount Beacon.

The excursion costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. Departures are set for Oct. 5, 6, 13, 19, 20 and 27; and Nov. 2 and 3.

NY Waterway also offers cruises to one of the region's historical castles and mansions.

The Kykuit Cruise visits the Rockefeller family estate and includes a tour of Philipsburg Manor, a working colonial farm. Tickets cost $62 for adults and children and $57 for seniors.

The Lyndhurst Cruise sails up the North Hudson to one of the finest Gothic Revival mansions in the U.S.

Tickets cost $49 for adults, $47 for seniors and $25 for children. The tour includes an optional excursion to Sunnyside, home of "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" author Washington Irving.

The Sleepy Hollow Cruise includes a visit to Sunnyside and Philipsburg Manor. Tickets cost $43 for adults, $41 for seniors and $22 for children. Prices include site admission and bus transfers.

Through Nov. 3, the Kykuit, Lyndhurst and Sleepy Hollow cruises depart from Pier 78 at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The trips return at 6 p.m.

Clients who want to overnight in the region can book the Historic Hudson Weekend getaway package for $175 per person, double, including an overnight stay at the Dolce Tarrytown House and admission and transportation to Kykuit, Lyndhurst, Sunnyside and Philipsburg.
