Construction on Universal Destinations & Experiences' first park in Europe, Universal United Kingdom Resort, will begin soon, the company announced Wednesday.
The resort will encompass a theme park; a retail, dining and entertainment complex; and a 500-room hotel on a 540-acre site in Bedford, England, about 45 minutes outside of London.
Universal said the resort's location is convenient to London via fast rail. It also has "strong access" to the rest of the U.K. and Europe.
While Universal said the park will feature "several immersive lands with innovative attractions and story-driven experiences," the themes of those lands have not yet been announced.
"We have a bold ambition to bring Universal's innovation and immersive experiences to new audiences," Mark Woodbury, chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, said in a release. "Universal United Kingdom Resort reflects that long-term strategy focused on key markets while continuing to enhance our existing parks and strengthen our position as a destination of choice for guests."
The announcement about the U.K. resort comes just after the first anniversary of the opening of Epic Universe, Universal's third theme park in Orlando.
The company is also in the final stages of preparing to open Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, a park designed for young children and their families. That property will feature a 300-room on-site hotel in addition to the theme park, which will have seven themed lands when it opens July 1.
