HONOLULU -- The Kahala Mandarin Oriental here opened a new
indoor-outdoor restaurant that serves a curry lunch buffet as its
main offering.
Available Monday through Friday at the Veranda restaurant, which
opened in a converted lobby area in May, the lunch costs $14.25 per
person. It is available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Lunch is served buffet style and is all you can eat. But at this
super luxurious hotel, it's probably best to leave your
all-you-can-eat manners at home.
The Veranda serves Japanese, Thai and Indian curries and the
chef changes them each week. Ingredients include seafood, beef,
chicken and tofu.
Also on the menu is thai sticky rice, steamed rice and Indian
Basmati rice. Dessert, which is included in the price, is a tapioca
pudding with sorbet or a flan.
Iced tea; ginger and melon lassis (a yogurt drink), and cucumber
limeade drinks cost extra.
The new Veranda is open for cocktails and snacks from 11 a.m. to
10:30 p.m. Afternoon tea is served from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Every day there is a harpist who plays from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30
p.m.; a three-piece band plays from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tuesday
through Saturday, and a classical guitarist comes in on Sundays and
Mondays from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
The Kahala has four other restaurants: it's main restaurant,
Hoku's; the Plumeria Beach Cafe; Honu Bar & Terrace, and the
Poolside Snack Bar.
