KAUAI, Hawaii -- The debate on parasailing on Kauai is dead in the
water. The state of Hawaii's Kauai Boating Division killed a
proposal to hold public hearings on the matter after two public
meetings in which residents and hotel associations voiced strong
disapproval of the sport in Kauai waters.
The sport is allowed in waters off Oahu, Maui and the Big
Island.
"Kauai has a rural feel to it, we don't have a carnival
atmosphere here like Maui or Waikiki," said Kauai Boating Division
district manager Vaughan Tyndzik.
