State Dept. updates Indonesia travel warning

WASHINGTON -- The State Dept. updated an existing travel warning for Indonesia reminding U.S. citizens to defer visits to the country due to "ongoing terrorist threats" there.

The department noted that the Indonesian government has declared martial law in Aceh, where clashes have taken place between the military and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM), a militant group.

Additionally, the State Dept. said there is still potential for terrorist attacks against U.S. interests in Bali, where a major attack took place last October.

"The terrorist attack in Bali, which took place in an area with a large number of foreign tourists, clearly indicates that a security threat extends to private American citizens," the department said.
