American citizens are warned against travel to Tanzania in light of
the attack on the American Embassy in Dar es Salaam. American
citizens in Tanzania are urged to limit travel within the country
and to exercise caution. The U.S. Embassy is communicating with the
local American community through the warden network. The Department
of State has authorized the departure of U.S. Embassy personnel in
non-emergency positions and family members of U.S. Embassy
personnel. All American citizens are urged to review their personal
security and to depart the country, if they deem it appropriate.
Americans in Tanzania may wish to contact their families
directly to advise them of their well-being. The emergency consular
services available through the U.S. Embassy are extremely limited
at this time. Emergency inquiries may be directed to the Department
of State at telephone 202-647-0900.
