Tel Aviv's David Inter-Continental eyes meetings market

TEL AVIV, Israel -- The first luxury hotel to open in Tel Aviv in the past two decades is setting its sights on the meetings market.

Sprawling along this city's beachfront and facing the Mediterranean, the 521-room, 38-suite David Inter-Continental is calling itself "the place to meet."

Its ballroom provides pillarless space, and the hotel also has 27 meeting rooms, which the property claims makes it the "largest hotel meeting space in the region."

The David Inter-Continental is within walking distance of the financial center, the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, shopping, embassies, old Jaffa and the beachfront Tayelet promenade.

It takes about 20 minutes to get to the property from Ben Gurion Airport.

Ten of the rooms are equipped for travelers with disabilities, and 60 are designated for nonsmokers.

All rooms have two direct-dial phone lines, voice mail and dataport and modem connections.

A 24th floor Club Lounge offers private check-in, a complimentary breakfast buffet and refreshments all day to guests staying on the Club Inter-Continental floors.

There is a business center with secretarial services and tech support, and a CyberAssist program is available at all times to help with in-room technology, Internet connections and access to equipment such as printers and adapters.

Restaurants with a view of the sea include Aibergojme, an a-la-carte outlet with Italian, French and Middle Eastern cuisine; Jaffa Court, serving international buffets; the Atrium Lounge & Bar; the Tokami Sushi Bar, and the Palms Pool Bar.

The Inca Cigar Bar and Lounge is located off the main lobby near the shops.

In the lobby, the Internet Cafe iMac@fe features six iMac computers.

Spa Club treatments range from $18 for a manicure to $160 for a 75-minute, four-handed Indian Sansara massage.

Facilities include a health club with fitness equipment and a jogging track, an outdoor pool and access to the beach and water sports.

The hotel offers preferred corporate rates and a program for accumulated IC coins that are redeemable for coffee and cake, a meal or a night's stay.
