The 2020 Hawaii Bowl college football game has been canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, according to a press release from ESPN Events.

The post-season bowl game, scheduled for Dec. 14 this year, typically pits one of the top schools from the Mountain West Conference, of which the University of Hawaii is a member, against one from Conference USA at Honolulu's Aloha Stadium.

The game is expected to return to Honolulu at the conclusion of the 2021 season.

"We are disappointed that we aren't able to stage events at these premier destinations this year," Pete Derzis, ESPN senior vice president of college sports programming and ESPN Events, said in a statement that also announced the cancellation of the 2020 Bahamas Bowl. "We are committed to bringing both games back in 2021, and we thank our conference partners, sponsors and the local communities for their ongoing support and understanding."
