The neo-Renaissance building was built at the base of Hvar's waterfront promenade in the late 1800s by Hvar Curative Health Society under the patronage of Austrian Empress Elizabeth. The hotel opened in 1903 as Empress Elisabeth Curative Health Hotel. From its inception, the hotel and Hvar have attracted royalty, wealthy aristocrats and jet-setting world travelers.
