The terms "luxury" and "recreational vehicle" may traditionally seem mutually exclusive. But that is changing, especially in the western U.S.
This week, the northern New Mexico mountain resort Angel Fire said it is on track to open its multi-million-dollar, luxury RV park this spring, which would offer road trippers access to amenities that one would expect at a high-end hotel or vacation rental house.
There will be hot tubs and fire pits, paved roads, a private clubhouse, Direct TV, bocce ball, a dog park and more. And the spaces will be large enough to accommodate the largest RVs on the roads -- vehicles that are luxury liners in their own right, some with price tags bigger than some houses.
The Angel Fire resort is being developed on 35 acres and
offers access to golf, fine dining, a zipline tour, hunting, hiking,
fishing, skiing, snowboarding, biking and some of New Mexico’s most
beautiful mountains.
The RV resort’s manager, Jim
Anderson, said Angel Fire has been working with the top experts in RV
development and resort hospitality to create the luxury campground.
“While
we will offer traditional RV amenities,” he said, “our goal is to go
way beyond and create a true mountain haven where guests can come to
stay for an extended period of time and enjoy our mountain community. We
will continue to work on the resort until it exceeds the expectations
of today’s passionate RV travelers.”
The Angel Fire RV resort is the latest sign of the demand for more luxury on the road.
Exclusive Resorts last fall launched a partnership with Airstream 2 Go that offers its members fully outfitted trailer rentals, including luxury tow vehicles, for curated eight- to 10-day road trips through Arizona, Utah, Nevada, California, Montana and Wyoming.
Exclusive Resorts COO Cathy Ross says such do-it-yourself experiences “may, in fact, represent the ultimate luxury.”
She said the partnership enables members to “fulfill that bucket list item – the great American road trip – in the world's most iconic RV."
The trailers are paired with a GMC Yukon Denali, and each trailer is outfitted with luxe road tripping essentials, from cotton-bamboo towels and flat-screen LED televisions to integrated sound systems, iPads, camping chairs and a portable gas grill.
