The Costa Maya cruise port officially reopened on Oct. 31, more than a year after sustaining heavy damage caused by Hurricane Dean.
The port celebrated its reopening by welcoming Holland America Cruises' Westerdam.
Costa Maya reopened with several improvements, including the ability to accommodate three ships at once as well as the larger F3- and Genesis-class cruise ships.
The neighboring fishing village of Mahahual, which was virtually destroyed by Dean, also was rebuilt and now features a beachside boardwalk and a lighthouse.
