Hilton signed a management agreement for a 227-room DoubleTree by Hilton in the gulf coast port city of Veracruz, east of Mexico City.
When renovations are completed, the property (the former Novomar Hotel) will reopen under the DoubleTree brand in the first of half of 2015.
“Veracruz has established itself as a major tourist destination for visitors who want to combine old-world charm with modern conveniences,” said John Greenleaf, global head of DoubleTree.
The oceanfront property will feature a 24-hour fitness center, outdoor pool, one restaurant, two bars, a business center and 10 meetings rooms.
Nearby attractions include the Veracruz Aquarium, historical forts and the zocalo (main square) of the city with outdoor cafes, music and dancing.
Veracruz is Mexico’s oldest and largest port; a major renovation is underway this year as the city plans for its 500th anniversary celebrations in 2019.
