Of the 121 hotels and 63
restaurants that earned the AAA Five Diamond rating in the past 12 months, 14
are newcomers to the coveted list.
Four of those newcomers to
the Five Diamond list are located in Mexico — two hotels and two restaurants.
New hotels on the list are
Grand Luxxe in Nuevo Vallarta and One&Only Palmilla in San Jose del Cabo
(the resort will reopen on March 15, following repairs from Hurricane Odile
last September).
New Five Diamond restaurants
in Mexico are Le Chique in Puerto Morelos and Passion by Martin Berasategui in
Playa del Carmen.
AAA inspectors collectively
visit approximately 1,200 hotels and restaurants each week to allow them to
identify emerging trends in the industry.
“At the ultraluxury level,
we’re seeing an increasing number of hotels offering guests the choice of
high-end service by white glove or touch screen, in person or electronically,”
said Michael Petrone, director, AAA Inspections & Diamond Ratings.
Five Diamond restaurants are
ahead of trends in farm-to-table and super-local food sourcing, according to
Petrone.
“It’s the personalized
service experience that shines brightest and creates a memorable event,” he
said.
