Huatulco, MexicoMexico’s home-based Ocean Star Cruise Co. is set to debut with a series of three- to seven-night cruises this summer along Mexico’s Pacific coast, departing from either Acapulco or Manzanillo.

Ports of call will include Cabo San Lucas, Huatulco, Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, Puerto Vallarta and Puerto Chiapas.

“Tourists in Mexico can now combine a land-based tour with a short cruise, all in one vacation,” said Henry Yaniz, director general for Ocean Star.

Facilities aboard the 525-cabin, seven-deck Star Liner cruise ship include three restaurants, a nightclub, a pool, spa, kids’ club, an Internet café and a gym. Live entertainment is offered each evening.

The ship is the former Nordic Prince, which began Caribbean cruising for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line in 1971.

The ship was lengthened by approximately 80 feet in 1980. Sun Line acquired the vessel in 1995, and it was eventually sold to a Mexican corporation in 2010, which formed the Ocean Star Cruise Co.

Details on rates and booking information will be outlined when the line launches its website in April.
