Sea turtle conservation event set for Riviera Maya

sea turtleGrupo Vidante, resort developer with numerous brands including Grand Luxxe, the Grand Mayan, Mayan Palace and The Bliss, will co-sponsor an event with the Sea Turtle Conservancy organization to aid in the conservation of endangered sea turtle species.

The event is will take place at the Grand Luxxe Riviera Maya from June 21 through 24, the time of year when the mature turtles are laying eggs.

A team from the Sea Turtle Conservancy will attach a tracking device to a mature turtle to track the turtle’s movements.

The turtle then becomes a participant in the Tour de Turtles, a program that follows the migration of 15 different species of sea turtles for three months, from their nesting beaches to their foraging grounds.
The “winning” turtle is the one that travels the most number of miles during the three-month period.

The progress of the turtles can be followed at www.tourdeturtles.org.
