Work on a spacious new passenger terminal at Acapulco's General Juan N. Alvarez Airport is under way, according to directors from Grupo Aeroportuario Centro Norte, which operates the airport.
The terminal, to be located alongside the current one, will feature more than 194,000 square feet of space, nearly doubling the airport's current facilities. The new facilities will allow for arrival and departures to be separated, which will improve passenger flow. The design also provides more space for modern amenities, technology and services. As a result, the new passenger terminal, representing an investment of nearly $30 million, will have the capacity for 1.3 million passengers a year upon completion in 2018, 30% more than the current building.
