Elewana Collection, a luxury safari lodge and camp operator with properties across Kenya and Tanzania, has expanded family-focused programming at select camps, adding age-appropriate activities as demand grows for multigenerational safari travel.
Programming starts as young as age 3; children can learn spear making and throwing at Tortilis Amboseli Camp, Tarangire Treetops and Elsa's Kopje. New culinary experiences include Garden to Table at Kifaru House in Kenya and at The Manor at Ngorongoro in Tanzania, where children 6 and older harvest vegetables and herbs for the chef to use in a family meal. At Loisaba Tented Camp in Northern Kenya, older children can join scorpion searches and an evening introduction to nocturnal wildlife.
Other additions include marshmallow roasting and folklore storytelling by the fire, traditional games such as Iron Snake and Migration, and a giant lawn version of Jenga featuring wildlife facts. At Elsa's Kopje, children learn the story of Elsa the lioness, with an optional evening screening of "Born Free." Children over age 4 receive a Wildlife Warrior backpack, and practical amenities include bed rails, potty seats and shorter private-vehicle game drives.
To lead the effort, Elewana has created a Head of Family Experiences role, filled by Natasha Wissanji. "Our approach is both practical and meaningful, speaking to the specific needs that families with young children have while celebrating the natural and cultural beauty of each locale," Wissanji said.
Further family activities are planned later this year, including a Wildlife Warrior Passport keepsake journal.
