Kate Rice
Kate Rice, who until this past July covered retail travel
sellers as a senior editor for Travel Weekly, was named ASTA's Travel
Journalist of the Year at the Society's Global Convention in Washington.
The award, announced Tuesday, honors extraordinary journalistic achievement
in the field of travel.
Rice joined Travel Weekly in 2012 and covered travel
retailing, from breaking industry news to profiles of individual travel agents
and new business models. Her cover story "The War on Human
Trafficking" received an Eddie award from Folio magazine and an Azbee from
the American Society of Business Publication Editors.
A veteran travel journalist, Rice at various times worked
for Travalliance, Leisure Travel News and Business Travel International, and her
work has also appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Travel + Leisure, Golf
Digest and ABCNews.com, among other publications. She resigned from Travel
Weekly to take a position at a virtual-reality travel company.
Previous Travel Weekly editors to receive the Travel
Journalist of the Year award include Editor in Chief Arnie Weissmann in 1996
and 2010; former Editor in Chief Nadine Godwin in 2002; Washington bureau chief
Fran Durbin in 2000 and former Editor in Chief Alan Fredericks, in 1995.
