To close out the winter skiing season, Alyeska Resort in Girdwood is gearing up to hold its Spring Carnival with the ever-popular Slush Cup, in which contestants dress in zany costumes and attempt to skim across a 90-foot-long pool of freezing water.

Resort marketing coordinator Britta Perry says the Spring Carnival will be held April 8 to 10, just prior to the winter ski season ending on April 17.

The resort fills up for the Spring Carnival as visitors take advantage of extended hours of lift operation and good spring skiing conditions. Full costumes are required to compete in the Slush Cup. Perry said costumes in the past have run the gamut from Vikings to Smurfs. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of activities, including live music and a tug-of-war.
