Want to Rondy? Anchorage is holding its Fur Rondy winter festival, touted as the nation’s premier winter festival.
There are a slew of activities for festival goers, including running with a small herd of reindeer, bidding on a bear hide or donning a ridiculous costume and running through the streets of downtown Anchorage.
This year’s festival is being held from Feb. 26 to March 6. Organizers promise the Fur Rendezvous festival, which dates back to 1953, is the best cure for the winter blues. The festival consists of dozens of events including a carnival, fireworks, hockey tournament, fur auction, sled dog races and outhouse races.
There will be a snow sculpture competition, snowshoe softball and photo contest. Visit Anchorage says 4,000 delegates are expected to participate in Fur Rondy 2016 with the winter festival generating nearly $2 million. More information is available at www.furrondy.net.
