Florida's Brightline has suspended service in light of the coronavirus pandemic. The hourly high-speed train service connecting Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach at first reduced its schedule but on March 25 announced that it halting all service indefinitely.
"Like all businesses, we are operating in a period of uncertainty, which may last several months," said Brightline president Patrick Goddard. "Although a difficult decision, we have decided to temporarily suspend Brightline service in the best interest of the entire South Florida community as we all seek to flatten the curve."
About 250 people have been laid off as a result of the service suspension. Another 700 remain on the job building the company's extension to Orlando.
Brightline said all change and cancellation fees will be waived for bookings made between March 10 and April 15. For both refundable and nonrefundable fares, guests will be credited for the fare paid to use on a future booking.
Special event tickets will receive a full refund within five business days.
