Epcot is headed into a multiyear transformation that will see a new park entrance and a new, currently unnamed "play pavilion" taking the place of the Wonders of Life pavilion. The changes will begin later this year.

The play pavilion pays homage to Epcot's original vision as a true futuristic community. Guests will find interactive experiences, hands-on activities and engaging entertainment. "Built on the power of play, it introduces an immersive and interactive 'city' where you can explore, create and interact with some of your favorite Disney characters," Zach Ridley, portfolio executive for Disney Imagineering, said in a statement. The opening of the pavilion is set to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort in 2021.

Epcot's entrance will also get a face-lift. The current Leave a Legacy photos, which have been at the park entrance for decades, will be moved just outside the park's gateway. The new plaza will feature large green spaces and a new fountain, which pays homage to Walt Disney's original plans for the park.

Guests will be able to get a sneak peek of the changes in the new Experience Center opening later this year at Epcot. The Experience Center will feature interactive exhibits to help guests visualize the park's changes.
