Guests checking in at the Gold Tower at the Golden Nugget in downtown Las Vegas are enjoying newly updated rooms.
A total of 365 rooms in the tower underwent renovation in August and now have a more modern design to bring them in line with the property's Rush Tower, which opened in 2009.
The Gold Tower, which opened in 1977, the same year as the Golden Nugget, was most recently renovated in 2008, and the design and color scheme dated the accommodations. The renovated rooms now have a neutral tone with a golden color palette and brown furnishings, free of any specific design trends.
"With the current design, we wanted to make sure we had something timeless," said Cindy O'Keefe, vice president of hotel operations at the Golden Nugget. "We want to keep these rooms looking fresh and relevant this year and five years from now."
Renovations took place within the tower's original 1977 footprint in rooms that are a bit smaller than those found in the newer Rush Tower.
"We had to make sure the renovations we made and furniture we chose gave the guest a spacious feel," O'Keefe said.

All rooms received new mattress sets, lounge seating, 42-inch TVs, granite nightstands, modern artwork, LED lighting and Energy Star air-conditioning units. To create additional space in the entryway and bathroom, the swinging bathroom door was replaced with a sliding door. New granite countertops and tile and a sliding shower door were added in the bathroom, as well.
Many customers sought out the Rush Tower's rooms when it opened in 2009, but the Gold Tower's renovations now offer a high-end room product closer to the casino floor, which is appealing to travelers interested in gaming.
"We have a loyal customer base at Golden Nugget, and the feedback I get is that they're absolutely thrilled we've brought that look and feel of the Rush Tower into the Gold Tower," O'Keefe said.
In addition to room renovations, the resort revitalized the 55,000-square-foot casino floor. New features include refreshed carpeting; a renovated high-limit slot and table gaming area, with more comfortable seating; and a remodeled building entrance from Casino Center Drive that includes a two-story, colorful chandelier hanging over the staircase leading to the hotel's convention and meetings space, which was also renovated.
Upgrades in the convention space include new flooring, lighting and wall coverings and upgraded technology and digital signage. There are now 13 breakout rooms, including the 5,000-square-foot Bel Air Room.
