Visit Florida has announced a deal to bring the renowned Michelin restaurant guide to Florida's three biggest cities next year.

Starting in 2022, Michelin will publish a guide to restaurants in Tampa, Orlando and Miami. It is only the fifth U.S. guidebook, following ones for Chicago, New York, Washington D.C. and California. Michelin reviews carry weight in Europe, and it is hoped that the new guide will bring more international tourists to Florida.

"This gives Florida the opportunity to highlight the dynamic and unexpected culinary adventures the Sunshine State has to offer from locally grown produce and fresh seafood to unique fusions from cultures around the world," Visit Florida president and CEO Dana Young said.

The Michelin Guide's expansion into Florida is being underwritten by Visit Florida and the destination marketing organizations in Tampa, Orlando and Miami. The value of the agreement wasn't disclosed.

The guides, which rate fine dining restaurants from one to three stars, are available online and in print format and rate more than 40,000 outlets in 24 territories on three continents. They have been published by the French tire company since 1904.
