Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett, Duke University All-Americans who were two of the top three picks in the NBA Draft last month, will be among the top draws in the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this month.
The two former teammates are scheduled to face each other on opening night, July 5, when a team of NBA hopefuls playing for the New Orleans Pelicans (who chose Williamson with the top pick in the draft) take on the New York Knicks' summer squad, which includes No. 3 overall pick Barrett. Games are played at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus.
The 11-day, 83-game summer league features teams representing all 30 NBA franchises as well as the Chinese and Croatian national teams. The NBA teams are composed largely of draft picks and other free agents hoping to make an impression and latch on with teams when the season starts in October.
Last year's event, won by the Portland Trail Blazers, set records for attendance and viewership. Tickets for the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2019 are on sale at NBATickets.com.
