The Walt Disney World Resort is rolling out a new service, Disney MagicMobile, which will enable guests to use their smartphone like they have used Disney's MagicBands.

Disney MagicMobile will launch "in phases starting later this year," Disney said in a post on the Disney Parks Blog. It will launch first on Apple devices like the iPhone and Apple Watch.

To use it, guests will create a Disney MagicMobile pass via the My Disney Experience app and add it to their device's digital wallet. Just like a MagicBand, they will hold the device near an access point -- for instance, to verify they have a ticket to enter a theme park.

Disney announced last summer it would stop distributing complimentary MagicBands to resort guests based on changing preferences. MagicBands will still be available for sale, and guests will be able to use MagicMobile, a MagicBand or any combination of the two.

Disney's digital room key feature, enabling guests to unlock their door using their smartphone and bypass the check-in process at the front desk, will continue to be housed in the My Disney Experience app. Traditional room keys are still available at the front desk.
