AmaWaterways' first heritage cruise is planned to depart July 30, 2022, aboard the AmaStella.

AmaWaterways has partnered with Ancestry to craft a series of heritage-focused river cruises.

The experience will begin before guests leave home. Once they have made a booking on one of the cruises, they will be matched with an expert from Ancestry's research division, AncestryProGenealogists.

Guests will have a one-hour welcome call with the genealogist, who will then conduct research into their family background. They will identify places of interest that are on the river cruise's route.

On board, a genealogist will do presentations on what guests' ancestors' lives were like and the history of various regions. Then, guests will enjoy a private onboard consultation with the genealogist going over their family tree. They can also take a group excursion with their genealogist.

In some cases, AmaWaterways said, there will be optional add-ons of an ancestral home visit with a genealogist.

AmaWaterways' first heritage cruise, "Heritage on the River: Your Personalized Ancestry Experience," is planned to depart July 30, 2022, aboard the AmaStella. The seven-night cruise will depart from Amsterdam along the Rhine River with stops in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France and Switzerland. Prices start at $5,399.

The cruise line will host an Ancestry Heritage River Cruise fam for travel advisors on Aug. 12 on the AmaMora, sailing the Rhine from Basel to Amsterdam. Fam applications can be submitted online.
