Scenic Group released its first impact report detailing the brand's efforts toward meeting environmental, social, and governance (ESG) commitments across its river and expedition lines.

In the report, Scenic said it reduced 95% of single-use plastics across its fleet; invested in advanced ship designs that help protect the seafloor and combat invasive species using a progressive water treatment system; and launched a menu of locally sourced meals on its ships under its Cherish the Planet initiative.

The company also created a program called Cherish the Planet Sustainable Touring Inclusion Program that will work to include at least one sustainable shore excursion on each river cruise itinerary and in each region its expedition yachts visit.

Scenic Group also said it was focusing on working more closely with the communities it visits in certain destinations. It said it would partner with an nongovernmental organization in Cambodia to allow its Mekong vessels to be used for work placement and training purposes for underprivileged people in the region.

"Our strategic approach not only focuses on operational enhancements but also on deepening our connections with the communities we visit," said Phil Jordan, director of sustainability at Scenic Group.

"From sustainable sourcing to engaging in meaningful cultural exchanges, every action is aimed at preserving the world's natural and cultural heritage for future generations."
