The German tour operator TUI is expanding into the river
cruise business.
The company has purchased three passenger ships and will
offer trips beginning next year.
The goal, the company said, is to offer flexible packages
under which guests can choose between different food and drink options as well
as a host of a la carte excursions from TUI's destination experts.
"We're incredibly excited to be moving into the river
cruise market," said Chris Hackney, managing director of cruise for TUI
U.K. "We're always looking for new opportunities to offer our customers
even more variety when it comes to choosing the perfect holiday, and our river
cruises will really take this to the next level as customers are able to
personalize their package whether that's board type, cabins, excursions and
even cocktail choice.
"We're very proud to be known for the friendliest
service, exciting itineraries and great value for money when it comes to our
ocean cruises and we look forward to bringing this to TUI River Cruises."
A news release about the expansion gave little details about
cabins but did say the ships will have a handful of private balcony suites.
