Scenic Luxury Cruises plans to kick off a culinary-themed river cruise in fall 2022, set to sail from the south of France with an award-winning, reality-star chef.
Top Chef alumni Bryan Voltaggio will make guest appearances onboard the cruise, which will include custom menus, learning opportunities for guests and the chance to dine with him. The 11-day, roundtrip cruise launches from Lyon on Oct. 20.
Multiple opportunities will be available for guests to interact with Voltaggio during the cruise. The sailing will begin with an evening reception to meet Voltaggio and taste an original, specialty cocktail. He will lead an onboard cooking demonstration where he will unveil a new recipe. And he will host a lecture on seasonal cooking and French cuisine.
"Lyon and the entire Burgundy region represent the gastronomic heart of France. From truffles and cheeses to the wide variety of wines, this area is a culinary lover's dream," Voltaggio said. "I look forward to partnering with Scenic on this very special sailing and taking their guests on a journey of culinary exploration."
The ship, the Scenic Sapphire, carries a cooking "emporium" called Scenic Culinaire, where guests can take part in cooking classes. In addition to the class led by Voltaggio, Scenic's chefs will offer classes throughout the voyage, and in Avignon guests can shop with a chef at a local market and then use those ingredients during a cooking session.
Also on the agenda are plenty of opportunities to explore southern France's gastronomic highlights on foot. Guests can partake in tours of a family-owned olive farm in Tarascon, wine tastings of Chateauneuf-du-Pape in Avignon and a hound-led truffle hunt in Tournus.
