Trafalgar has hired Damien O'Connor to lead its river cruise venture, and he will oversee the development of new ships coming in 2028.

The tour operator will begin river cruising next year on the Danube and Rhine, chartering older ships from sister brand Uniworld Boutique River Cruises. Trafalgar plans to add a third Uniworld ship in 2027.
The new ship class will "embody Trafalgar's signature warmth, storytelling and attention to detail," Trafalgar said.
O'Connor comes to Trafalgar with more than two decades of experience in cruise operations, newbuilds and luxury product development. He has worked for Carnival Corp., Disney Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean and Silversea.
He led the launch of the Solstice class for Celebrity and also Royal Caribbean's Quantum class. O'Connor most recently consulted on luxury yacht projects for Aman Hotels and Four Seasons, which will launch in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
O'Connor said travel advisors can "look forward to a product that not only stands out in the market but also builds repeat business and strengthens client loyalty."
"River cruising presents an incredible opportunity to reimagine how guests experience Europe. Coupled with Trafalgar's brand legacy and rich destination expertise, this creates a game-changing opportunity for advisors," O'Connor said.
Melissa DaSilva, chief sales officer and deputy CEO of TTC Tour Brands (Trafalgar's parent company) said O'Connor "understands that river cruising isn't just about ships and schedules, it's about creating moments that stay with our guests long after they return home.
"As we chart our course into river cruising, Damien's leadership will ensure every vessel reflects the Trafalgar spirit with exceptional experiences, genuine connection and meticulous attention to detail."
