WASHINGTON -- The Airlines Reporting Corp. was continuing to
process travel agents' transactions on Laker Airways, which
announced plans to end its Florida-U.K. scheduled service on Jan.
15.
Allan Muten, ARC corporate communications director, said, "We've
been advised of their intent to convert from scheduled to charter
service. As with any carrier in this situation, we would invite
them to voluntarily withdraw from ARC when they're good and ready
to do so. We would encourage them to permit us to give ample
advance notice to travel agencies, thus allowing agencies to settle
their affairs through ARC."
Laker Airways (codes 6F and 385) has said it would protect
passengers booked through Feb. 28 and provide refunds to passengers
booked on or after March 1.
The carrier should not be confused with LB Limited, a carrier
flying between Florida and the Bahamas, which previously operated
under the name Laker Airways (Bahamas) and no longer belongs to
ARC.
